Amhara Region Trains Tens of Thousands in Militia and Police Forces to Bolster Security
The Amhara Regional Government is conducting large-scale training for militia and regular police forces, emphasizing self-reliance, military ethics, and psychological resilience. Officials stated the trainees will play a critical role in stabilizing the region and safeguarding national security.

The Amhara Regional Government has announced that it is training tens of thousands of militia and regular police forces.
Dessalegn Tassew, Coordinator of the Administrative Affairs Cluster with the rank of Deputy Chief Administrator and Head of the Amhara Region Peace and Security Bureau, inspected the Bale Sheko Basic Military Training Center, where he "encouraged" trainees numbering in the tens of thousands, including militia and regular police recruits.
During his visit, Dessalegn briefed the trainees on "the region's current security situation and the needs of the people and government." He also "clearly explained the objectives, necessity, and goals of the training," according to the regional media.
Dessalegn stated that the training primarily aims to "produce trainees who are free, independent, adhere to military ethics, are psychologically resilient, and capable of ensuring the region’s security through self-reliance."
He emphasized that the trainees "bear great responsibility in sustainably safeguarding the region’s peace, rescuing the people from their challenges, and redirecting their focus toward development." It was also noted that the trainees "are prepared to protect not only the region but also national security."
