Immigration Authorities Arrest 65 for Illegal Activities Near Office, Including Passport Fraud
Ethiopia’s Immigration and Citizenship Service, in collaboration with federal and local police, detained 65 individuals—including 25 women—for operating illegal brokerage rings, disrupting services, and fraudulently processing emergency passports. Seven properties tied to these activities were also shut down.
The Immigration and Citizenship Service announced that 65 suspects, including 25 women, have been placed under custody for operating illegally near the agency’s office premises.
The institution stated that the suspects were apprehended in a coordinated operation with the Federal Police Commission and the Lideta Sub-City District 7 administration.
The suspects were allegedly engaged in:
Various illegal brokerage activities,
Disrupting service delivery by overcrowding the area,
Fraud and deceptive practices,
Illegally processing online emergency passports.
Additionally, authorities reported that seven residences involved in unlawful business operations were sealed during the operation.
