Health Minister Mekdes Daba has confirmed the occurrence of cholera in Addis Ababa and some major cities, despite the government's efforts to keep the outbreak under wraps. She made these remarks during an interview with the Prime Minister's Office Press Secretariat.

Mekdes acknowledged the outbreak during her discussion, as reported by the weekly newspaper Dagu Journal. She noted that in previous years, the disease was commonly referred to as Ateet. The minister emphasized that preventing and controlling cholera is a top priority for the government.

Last year, 200 districts were at risk of cholera, but the number of affected districts has now decreased to 14, according to Mekdes.
