The Addis Ababa City Trade Bureau has announced that Regulation No. 185/2017, which mandates the provision of commercial and transport services during nighttime, will be implemented starting today.
The Bureau stated that, in light of the economic and social transformations Addis Ababa has undergone, the work culture and demands of the majority of the population have shifted. As a result, conducting business and providing services at night has become increasingly common. The regulation aims to ensure the consistency and continuity of this practice.
The regulation was issued to implement a decision previously passed by the city administration’s cabinet. W/ro Habiba Siraj, the head of the Bureau, explained that the regulation will be fully enforced starting today, March 10, 2025.
The Bureau emphasized that the ongoing infrastructure development in the city has stimulated economic activity. To sustain this momentum, further develop work culture, accelerate economic growth, and enhance the city’s competitiveness, it is essential to create a conducive environment for businesses and service providers to operate at night, in addition to daytime services.
The Bureau also indicated that the key provisions of the regulation will be explained to the public through all media outlets, and awareness-raising activities will be conducted to ensure the regulation is well understood.
