Armed men intercepted a public transport bus traveling from Addis Ababa to Debre Markos and abducted more than 56 passengers to an unknown location, according to eyewitnesses who spoke to Addis Standard.
The incident occurred on Monday, March 8, 2017 EC, in a place called Alidero, located in the Degem Woreda of the North Shewa Zone in the Oromia Region. An eyewitness, who requested anonymity for safety reasons, provided details of the event.
Following the sudden gunfire, the armed men engaged in a clash with the Oromia Special Forces. The eyewitness stated, "At the time, the armed men were in large numbers. Half of them were fighting with the Special Forces, while the other half forced passengers out of the bus."
"There was intense gunfire, and the bus immediately stopped after its tires were shot," the eyewitness added. "They severely beat the passengers and forced them out. The area is a remote wilderness, and I don’t know where they took them. They just kept beating them and took them away.
