Former Hawassa Deputy Mayor Receives 13-Year Prison Sentence

The former deputy mayor of Hawassa, Professor Tsegaye Tuke, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison and fined 21,000 Birr. Other officials involved in the case also received prison sentences and fines.

The Hawassa City High Court has sentenced the former deputy mayor of Hawassa, Professor Tsegaye Tuke, to 13 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 21,000 Birr. The verdict was issued last week following two cases in which he was found guilty.

The court accepted four of the eight mitigating factors presented by the former mayor and dismissed the remaining four, leading to the 13-year prison sentence.

Additionally, the former head of the Hawassa City Development and Construction Directorate, Mr. Tariku Tamene, was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 41,000 Birr. Mr. Tafese Tunasha received 8 years and 5 months of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of 51,000 Birr, while Mr. Seifu Lelise was sentenced to 8 years and 5 months of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 76,000 Birr.
