Renowned Masinko and Kirar Player, Vocalist, and Music Teacher Alemayehu Fanta Has Passed Away

Alemayehu Fanta, a celebrated masinko and kirar player, vocalist, and music teacher, has passed away.

Known for his poetry, singing, and mastery of the kirar and masinko, Alemayehu Fanta served as a teacher at the Yared School of Music for many years.

He was particularly renowned for his masinko performances and played a significant role in promoting Ethiopian culture worldwide.

In a statement of condolence, the Yared School of Music at Addis Ababa University expressed deep sorrow, describing his passing as a great loss to Ethiopia's music community and the nation as a whole.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow, March 12, 2025, followed by his funeral at the Genetsege St. George Church in Piassa at 3:00 PM.
