The Addis Ababa Revenue Bureau has issued a travel ban on 62 tax defaulters who owe more than 3.2 billion Birr in unpaid taxes, preventing them from leaving the country.
The Bureau, in accordance with Article 44, Sub-Articles 1 to 3 of Tax Administration Proclamation No. 983/2008, has submitted the list of these individuals to the Federal Immigration and Citizenship Service to enforce the travel restriction. This was confirmed by Sewunet Ayelu, the Bureau's Communication Director, in an interview with Bsrat Radio and Television.
The Bureau has been actively working to ensure tax compliance during the 2017(Ethiopian Calendar) fiscal year. It has established a new Debt Monitoring and Administration Division to improve its operations. Over the past six months, the Bureau has collected over 6.4 billion Birr in outstanding debts.
Sewunet Ayelu also urged taxpayers to fulfill their obligations by paying their taxes on time and in full, emphasizing the importance of their contribution to the nation's development.
