"After March 03, Customers Without FAYDA ID Cannot Purchase Ethio-Djibouti Railway Tickets" – Ethio-Djibouti Railway Share Company
The Ethio-Djibouti Railway Share Company has announced that the process of purchasing travel tickets for passengers will be fully digitized starting from Monday, March 03, 2025.
W/ro Israel Welde Meskel, the company's communication expert, told Tikva Ethiopia that the online ticket purchasing process, which began two days ago, requires a FAYDA ID to access the service.
W/ro Israel stated, "We have been preparing for this for a while, and the FAYDA ID is mandatory. However, due to the transition period this week and the lack of user familiarity, we are still selling tickets manually. Starting next Monday, however, it will no longer be possible to purchase railway tickets without a FAYDA digital ID."
Payment is made via Telebirr. Domestic users can access the service using their FAYDA registration number, while non-Ethiopian users can use their passports to purchase tickets.
The expert also clarified that there has been no increase in ticket prices, and the only change is the digitization of the process at the current rates.
W/ro Israel explained that the previously operational free ticket sales offices will no longer handle ticket sales, as the process has now been fully digitized.
