The Mother Party has called for special attention to be given to those displaced and those whose homes and properties were burned in the conflict in Gera Woreda, Jimma Zone. They also urged that those involved in the violence be brought to justice.

The party acknowledged that the zonal administration has taken responsibility for the affected area, providing shelter for around 10,000 people, and that some have begun returning to their homes. However, they emphasized that many still require urgent attention.

“On the other hand, those whose homes and properties were burned are now sheltering in schools, and unnecessary pressures, such as demands to bring unidentified weapons, are being imposed on them,” the party stated.

“Some individuals are attempting to return and displace others, while those involved in killings and arson have not been brought to justice. This lack of accountability has created a crisis, and the people, having lost their property, are now facing hunger,” the statement continued.

“Therefore, we strongly urge that the nearby defense forces continue their stabilization efforts and ensure that our displaced citizens, who are now sheltering in tents and schools, receive immediate support to rebuild their lives,” the party added.

The party also reiterated its earlier call for the defense forces to secure the area, facilitate the return of displaced individuals to their homes, and halt inflammatory rhetoric from officials that could incite further violence. They condemned the “death and significant property damage” caused by what they described as “horrific identity-based attacks.”
