A fire in Kolfe Keranio, Addis Ababa, was swiftly controlled without injuries. Authorities urge the public to call 939 promptly during emergencies to ensure a quick response.

Sometimes, emergencies require reporting before they have spread. Calling 939 promptly is crucial so we can respond quickly and control the situation,’ says the Commission.
Today, the Fire and Disaster Risk Management Commission informed Tikva Ethiopia that a fire incident in Addis Ababa, specifically in Kolfe Keranio, Woreda 2, near the traditional Kare Kore Bekela Menafesha area, has been brought under control without causing any human casualties.
Mr. Negatu Mamo, the commission's public relations officer, stated, ‘The fire has been fully controlled.’
He explained that the fire broke out in a warehouse storing flammable materials like rags. Thanks to the swift response of the commission’s staff and the community, the fire was contained before it could spread to nearby mosques and residential areas.
‘The fire did not cause any human injuries. The remaining task is to assess the economic damage and determine the cause of the incident, which we are investigating alongside the police,’ he told Tikvah Ethiopia.
When asked about the recurring fire incidents and what precautions the public should take, Mr. Negatu responded, ‘It’s true that fire incidents are recurring. Currently, we are in a windy and dry season.’
He added, ‘Two of the three fundamental factors that cause fires are present in the current weather conditions. Negligence and carelessness come at a cost, so the public must exercise extra caution when using fire and electrical sources in their homes and workplaces.’
‘The public must remain vigilant. Sometimes, emergencies require reporting after they have spread. Calling 939 promptly is essential so we can respond quickly and control the situation,’ he emphasized.
