‘Bringing Mobile Phones into Churches is Strictly Prohibited’ – Addis Ababa Diocese
The Addis Ababa Diocese has announced that churchgoers are prohibited from bringing mobile phones into churches during worship services and other spiritual activities.
The diocese held discussions with administrators, secretaries, evangelists, and priests from all churches and monasteries regarding how services should be conducted during the Lenten season.
Following the discussions, several directives were issued.
One of the directives strictly prohibits bringing mobile phones into churches during prayer services and other spiritual activities.
A directive letter has been sent to all churches and monasteries to ensure they are aware of this strict prohibition.
The diocese stated, ‘In the Orthodox Tewahedo Church, the Divine Liturgy is the culmination of all prayers, where we partake in the Holy Body and Precious Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, the life of the soul, the strengthening of faith, and the attainment of the Kingdom of Heaven.’
Therefore, ‘the unnecessary use of mobile phones is prohibited as it distracts from blessings and diminishes grace,’ the diocese explained.
Church and monastery administrators, as well as parish councils, have been instructed to strictly enforce this directive.
