Tigray Generals Reportedly Met with Eritrean President Isaias in Asmara at the End of January

Africa Intelligence Service, a France-based organization known for its analyses on African affairs, reported on February 17 that Tigrayan leaders have been dangerously entangled between Addis Ababa and Asmara. The report, titled Tigrayan Leaders Dangerously Entangled Between Addis Ababa and Asmara, was published on its website.

According to the report, senior leaders of the Tigray Defense Forces (TDF), who fought against the Ethiopian government during the war, have been repeatedly meeting with their Eritrean allies in recent weeks. The two parties initially held irregular meetings in areas bordering Ethiopia and Eritrea, followed by a secret meeting in Asmara, where Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki was present.

During the secret meeting with President Isaias, who has been in power for 31 years, it was reported that he assured the generals of Eritrea's support in case of any attack from the Ethiopian government. This detail was noted by Dagu Journal in its coverage of the report.

This information comes after Getachew Reda, President of Tigray's Interim Administration, had previously addressed the issue on a platform. However, at the time, he did not provide further details beyond stating that the Debretsion group was engaging with external forces. Meanwhile, TPLF Chairman Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael has dismissed such claims, asserting that any alleged interactions with the Eritrean government are far from the truth.
