20 Dead in One Week: Traffic Crashes Ravage Oromia Region
In a single week, traffic accidents in Oromia killed 20 people and injured 28, causing over 150,000 birr in damages, with speeding and pedestrian neglect blamed as key factors.

20 Lives Lost in Traffic Accidents in Oromia Region Within One Week
From February 10 to February 16, 2017 (Ethiopian calendar), traffic accidents in the Oromia Region claimed the lives of 20 people, while 24 others sustained severe injuries and 4 suffered minor injuries.
The estimated property damage exceeds 150,000 birr, and the fatal accidents occurred across various zones and cities in the region.
Inspector Mesela Abera, a traffic control expert in the Oromia Region, told Bsrat Radio and Television that the victims ranged in age from 11 to 70 years.
Most of the accidents occurred during the daytime and were caused by male drivers. The fatal accidents involved trucks, public transport vehicles, bajajs (three-wheeled vehicles), and motorcycles.
Inspector Mesela Abera attributed the causes of the accidents to speeding, failure to give pedestrians priority, technical issues, failure to yield to other vehicles, and not maintaining safe distances while driving.
