Ethiopian Premier League Fines Mechal 21 Million Birr and Sidama Coffee 18 Million Birr for Rule Violations
Mechal and Sidama Coffee football clubs have been fined 21 million and 18 million birr, respectively, for violating league rules by making and accepting advance payments. Players involved also face individual fines and suspensions.

Mechal Fined 21 Million Birr, Sidama Coffee Fined 18 Million Birr
In accordance with Article 7 of the Ethiopian Premier League Club Payment System Administration Directive No. 1/2016, an investigation was conducted involving four clubs and 15 players.
The investigation confirmed that the clubs had made advance payments (through third parties) and that the players had accepted these payments, thereby violating the provisions outlined in Article 5.
The investigation into Mechal Football Club revealed that seven of its players had received advance payments. As a result, the club has been fined 3 million birr per player, totaling 21 million birr.
In addition, the players have been ordered to pay a fine of 200,000 birr each and to submit proof of payment to the league association within seven days.
Similarly, an investigation into Sidama Coffee Football Club found that six players had received advance payments outside the league association’s guidelines. Consequently, the club has been fined a total of 18 million birr.
The six players have also been fined 200,000 birr each and are required to submit proof of payment to the league association within seven days.
On the other hand, one player each from Mekelakeya 70 and Hawassa City was found to have received advance payments. Each club has been fined 3 million birr, and the players have been fined 200,000 birr each.
According to the league association, the penalized teams will be suspended from competition until they complete their fines and submit proof of payment to the association.
