Eritrea is reportedly closing its embassy in Addis Ababa.

Following a deterioration in relations over the past two years and the recent escalation of a war of words between the governments of Ethiopia and Eritrea, it has been revealed that Eritrea is closing its embassy in Addis Ababa.

The two countries, which had restored their relations after nearly two decades of hostility, fought together during the devastating war in Tigray. However, their relationship began to sour after the Pretoria Agreement was signed.

'After this, the embassy will continue to operate with the African Union representative, but the embassy staff in Ethiopia are being withdrawn,' a source from the embassy told Dagu Journal, confirming that the process is being expedited.

A few days ago, former Ethiopian President Dr. Mulatu Teshome, in an article published on Al Jazeera, warned that the Eritrean government is pursuing an agenda to destabilize the Horn of Africa and must be stopped immediately.

In response, Eritrea's Minister of Information, Mr. Yemane Gebremeskel, dismissed the president's remarks and accused the Ethiopian government of inciting neighboring countries.

Following the news of the Eritrean embassy's closure, the fate of the Ethiopian embassy in Asmara remains unclear. Although the embassy has remained open in recent years, it has operated without an ambassador.
