Players returned to training after the break, but concerns remain about the club’s ability to resolve the issue and maintain its performance.

St. George Club Reportedly Struggles to Pay Players’ Salaries
The club has faced financial difficulties following its separation from MIDROC Company.
Despite St. George’s strong performance in the first round of the Ethiopian Premier League, the club is reportedly unable to pay its players’ salaries.
After parting ways with MIDROC Ethiopia, the St. George Sports Association has been grappling with financial challenges. Although the board has made various efforts to address the issue, it has yet to find a temporary or permanent solution.
It has also been reported that the club has not paid its players’ salaries for over two months. The players had requested their payments before the mid-season break, asking, ‘How can we return to our families with empty pockets?’ However, their pleas went unanswered, and they went on break without a resolution. Reliable sources indicate that the players were deeply affected by this situation and played their final match under emotional strain.
Currently, most of St. George’s players have been promoted from the youth team, and the association does not pay them high salaries compared to previous players. Yet, even these payments have not been made. There are concerns that if an urgent solution is not found, it could negatively impact the team’s performance. St. George currently sits in third place in the Ethiopian Premier League with 29 points, a remarkable achievement that has exceeded many expectations.
The players have now returned to camp after their break and resumed regular training at the club’s training ground in Bishoftu today.
